Materials


Warm Up (5 min.)



Go over homework (Study Guide 13-2).

Content Objectives (1 min.)
Student will be able to use the Pythagorean theorem and start learning to simplify radical expressions.
Student will be able to perform simple operations on radical expressions.

Language Objectives (1 min.)
Student will use and comprehend math vocabulary: Pythagorean Theorem, leg, hypotenuse, right triangle, conjugate, and radical.


Activities (35 min.)

Radicals/Square Roots are worked with in the exact same way as all other numbers. You must still obey the distributive property. When you add and subtract, you must only add and subtract like terms. Also, make sure that you always give your answers in simplest form (if you don't remember, see page 723).


Let's do examples 1,2, and 4 from page 727. Remember, you can always check your work by comparing your answer with that of the calculator's.
